August 2026
Thursday
An early start from Poipu puts you at Ke'e Beach before the crowds and clouds roll in — some of the best snorkeling on the island at golden hour. Rinse off at Anini Beach on the way back, then head to the Princeville Botanical Gardens for the 3-hour chocolate tour. After lunch, loop back north to Tunnels Beach for more snorkeling and a quick stop at Maniniholo Dry Cave, before a leisurely afternoon in Hanalei town and bay, wrapping up with a sunset dinner at Welina Terrace overlooking it all.

🗺️ Map → 🧳 Packing List →
  • Leave Poipu by 6:00–6:15 AM — early departure is key to getting clear water and empty beaches at Ke'e before the clouds roll in
  • Ha'ena State Park (Ke'e Beach) requires advance reservations through the Hawaii DLNR system — must book ahead
  • Anini Beach (Anini Beach Rd, off Kahiliholo Rd) has outdoor showers — good stop to rinse off after Ke'e before the botanical gardens tour (~15 min drive south from Ha'ena)
  • 🌊 Check ocean conditions before heading out: hioceansafety.com — Ke'e and Tunnels are not lifeguarded, and north-shore conditions can change quickly. When in doubt, don't go out
  • Tunnels Beach parking is street-only and fills fast — afternoon timing helps · If full, park at Ha'ena Beach Park and walk east along the sand (~10 min)
  • ✓ Princeville Botanical Gardens LLC Waiver & Release Agreement — signed
  • Arrive at Princeville Botanical Gardens by 9:00 AM — 30 minutes before the 9:30 AM tour start · Two bookings: #346065852 & #346065603
  • Directions (approaching from the North — after Ke'e/Tunnels): From Princeville Shopping Center (Foodland), head South toward the airport · Take your first right onto Kapaka Road · Travel exactly 1 mile, then turn left onto Ahonui Place · Drive slowly on Ahonui — residential street · After 3/10 mile the driveway is on the left (3840) · Pass through the open wooden gate and immediately turn left into the parking lot · If you reach a dead-end roundabout, you've gone too far · Call (808) 634-5505 if you can't find it
  • Bring good walking shoes and bug repellent — the garden paths can be muddy and mosquitoes are active near the cacao trees
