🗺️ Choose Your Own Adventure
Free afternoon — do what sounds best to you. A few great options below.
🏖️ Keawakapu Beach — Between Kihei and Wailea · ¾-mile long white sand beach · Flat waves, rarely crowded · Small coral reef and tide pools at the north end · Great sunset spot
🤿 Snorkeling at Ulua & Mokapu Beach — Golden sand beach in Wailea that's excellent for snorkeling right from shore. You can spot fish and possibly turtles not far from the water's edge. A bit smaller and can feel lively, but the snorkeling more than makes up for it — walk over to neighboring Mokapu Beach for even more. Large parking lot, bathrooms, and showers make it easy to settle in for a long stay.
🥾 Kings Highway (Hoapili Trail) — A coastal hike across an ancient lava field at the end of the road near La Perouse Bay. Good shoes are a must — the terrain is rugged and it gets brutally hot during the day, so head here straight from breakfast. The trailhead begins just past the parking lot where the road dead-ends. Multiple routes available; the split toward Kanaio Lighthouse (Hanomanioa Light) is the recommended branch rather than pushing all the way to Kanaio Beach.
No agenda — explore, snorkel, hike, or just relaxKings Highway: go early, bring plenty of water — lava field + midday sun is no jokeCheck shore break conditions before entering the water
