Do Before You Leave
Bring $1,245 cash for the helicopter — Island Helicopters cash rate saves $49.80 vs. card ($1,294.80). You picked this up last night at Hanapepe. Count it before you leave. Booking #2250703.
Arrive at Island Helicopters by 9:45 AM — 3788 Ahukini Road, Lihue · (808) 245-8588. Eat breakfast before you leave — nothing is available at the helipad.
Pack for Maui TONIGHT — flight tomorrow is Alaska 1040 departing LIH at 9:59 AM. Check-out is 10:00 AM. Return rental car at Lihue Airport — leave extra time for car return + shuttle + security.
Confirm Beach House Restaurant reservation for 6:30 PM — 5022 Lawai Rd, Koloa (about 5 min from the resort). Last dinner on Kaua'i.
Day Warnings
Cash $1,245 — do NOT pay by card if you have the cash. Saves $49.80. Count it before you leave the resort. Have it ready at check-in.
No large cameras or tablets INSIDE the helicopter — leave extended-lens cameras, iPads, and professional lenses in the car during the flight. At the waterfall landing, full camera access is fine.
Wear dark-colored clothing — light or white clothing creates reflections in the helicopter windows that ruin in-flight photos. Dark navy, green, or grey preferred.
Waimea Canyon clouds in reliably by early afternoon. If you do the canyon drive, go straight to Kalalau Lookout (mile 18) first — don't stop at the lower lookouts on the way up.

Required for FAA flight manifest check-in.
Wallet / credit card essential
For Beach House farewell dinner ($55+/person × 3 = $165+), Sunskai Shave Ice, Waimea Canyon entry fee, and any other purchases.
🚁Helicopter — Clothing & Gear
Dark-colored clothing essential
Navy, dark green, grey, or black — reduces window reflections in flight photos. Avoid white or light pastels. This makes a noticeable difference in your photos.
Leave large cameras & tablets in the car
Extended lenses, tablets, iPads, professional camera bodies — leave in the car during the flight. Standard DSLR and compact cameras are fine inside. At the waterfall landing, full access.
Camera / GoPro
For the falls landing — 400-ft waterfall in a remote jungle valley. The flight itself is stunning: Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Mt. Waialeale crater.
DSLR Camera (Canon 50D) essential
Tripod
River shoes
For the short walk to the base of Manawaiopuna Falls at the landing site, plus any walking around the Waimea Canyon lookouts.
Hair ties
Helicopter rotor wash + any beach time later.
Dramamine / motion sickness optional
Helicopter rides through mountain valleys can be turbulent. Take 30+ minutes before flight if prone to motion sickness.
🏔️Waimea Canyon Drive (Optional)
Waimea Canyon State Park entry fee
$10/vehicle + $5/person. Cash or card accepted at the gate. Go straight to Kalalau Lookout (mile 18) first — clouds move in fast.
Water & snacks
Stops along Hwy 550 are very limited. Bring water from the resort before heading up.
Light jacket or layer
Kalalau Lookout is at 4,000 ft — significantly cooler and windier than the coast. Even on a warm beach day, bring a layer for the summit.
Sun hat / cap
Canyon lookouts are exposed at altitude — sun reflects off the red dirt.
Day pack
Carry water, snacks, and camera between the canyon lookouts.
🧺Poipu Beach Picnic Lunch
Cooler bag / lunch tote essential
Transport the villa sandwiches, jerky, Maui chips, and fresh fruit to Poipu Beach for the last beach picnic.
