📋 Do Before You Leave
Check the tide chart — Nakalele Blowhole is most dramatic at high tide. Time your 7:30 AM departure accordingly.
Pull cash — The Gazebo is cash-only (or confirm current policy), and ʻĪao Valley charges $10 parking + $5/person at the gate.
Check ocean conditions for Napili Bay — no lifeguards on-site.
Key
Day-specific — not your standard beach kit
Standard — bring as usual
🏖️ Beach & Water
Snorkeling gear essential
Napili Bay is one of Maui's best turtle-spotting beaches — snorkel gear is a must. Bring a mask, snorkel, and fins.
Beach towels
Shower rinse-off is available near the boardwalk at Napili Bay (shared with adjacent hotels).
Beach chairs
Plan to stay at Napili Bay for 2–3 hours — chairs are worth it.
Beach umbrella
Sunscreen
Reef-safe sunscreen required in Hawaii state parks and beaches. Napili Bay is exposed — reapply.
Dry bag or waterproof pouch day-specific
Nakalele Blowhole sends spray far in all directions. Protect your phone and valuables when viewing from the rocks above.
Rash guard or UV swim shirt day-specific
Long time in the water at Napili Bay — extra sun protection is smart, especially if snorkeling for an extended stretch.
Lip balm with SPF
Long sun day — beach, lava rocks, valley. Sun, wind, and salt are tough on lips.
Hair ties
Napili Bay snorkel + windy north coast at Nakalele. Pack a spare.
Mask defogger / no-fog solution
For the long Napili Bay snorkel — keep the mask clear for turtle spotting.
👟 Footwear & Clothing
River shoes essential
Nakalele Blowhole and Dragon's Teeth (Makaluapuna Point) involve walking on sharp, uneven lava rock. Flip flops are not suitable — river shoes with grip soles are the right choice.
Light windbreaker or layer day-specific
The north coast at Nakalele is exposed and often windy, especially early morning. A light layer makes the 7:30 AM stop much more comfortable.
Flip flops / sandals
Fine for The Gazebo, Napili Bay, and Wailuku — just not for the blowhole rocks.
Hat / sun hat
Sunglasses
Change of clothes day-specific
You'll be at Napili Bay for 2+ hours, then heading to ʻĪao Valley and Wailuku. Worth having a dry outfit for the afternoon portion of the day.
Light rain jacket / packable shell
ʻĪao Valley is a lush rainforest gorge — sudden showers are common. A packable shell is enough.
🥤 Food & Drink
Snacks / packed lunch day-specific
Lunch is currently TBD and Napili Bay has very limited dining options. Pack snacks or a light lunch to eat on the beach — or grab something in Lahaina on the drive to ʻĪao Valley.
Reusable water bottles
Full day in the sun — hydration matters. Fill up before leaving the villa.
Cash cash
The Gazebo breakfast is cash-only (confirm current policy). ʻĪao Valley: $10 parking + $5/person entry. Bring $40–$60 in small bills.
Cooler bag (optional)
Nice to have for drinks and snacks during the Napili Bay stretch.
🎒 Gear & Extras
Camera / GoPro
Nakalele Blowhole eruptions are dramatic and photogenic. Underwater camera useful for snorkeling with turtles at Napili. ʻĪao Valley needle views are stunning.
Bug spray day-specific
ʻĪao Valley is a lush, shaded rainforest gorge — mosquitoes can be present. Worth having in your bag for the afternoon stop.
Beach bag / tote
Phone charger / portable battery
Tide chart (phone) check before leaving
Pull up Maui tide times before you leave the villa. Nakalele Blowhole is best at or near high tide — plan your 7:30 AM departure timing around this.
Wallet / ID / credit card essential
For lunch in Lahaina, Wailuku shops, dinner, and ʻĪao Valley as a backup if cash runs short.
Personal medications
Deodorant (in car)
For the freshen-up after 2+ hours at Napili Bay before heading to ʻĪao Valley and Wailuku.
Wet bag for swimsuit / towels
Keep dry items dry on the drive from Napili to ʻĪao Valley.
Wet wipes
Napili Bay has no public restrooms on-site (nearest at Kapalua Bay) — wipes are handy for the transition before lunch.
